Something old, something new, something strangled till it turned blue... Just lines that I had lying around, mashed up together. Might colour at some point or even draw it up properly...
Erm not sure about a tutorial but can briefly run them down for ya.
Draw them by hand, using click pencils, A4 cartridge paper and numerous permanent pens. Scan the lines in, then clean them up in Photoshop. Then the cheating begins! I use a program called Inkscape to do a vector trace of the lines. This gets them real crisp and means I can fill colour with no weird gappy bits on the edges. Export the lines as a png to maintain the transparency, then bring back to Photoshop for colouring. I've got a few tricks of the trade in PS that I've made myself, custom brushes and backgrounds. All made in the simplest fashion, just throwing paint and ink about to get a variety of effects then scanning them in. I really go to town with utilising the layer functions in PS as this means you have so much more control over the colouring process and can experiment without the fear of having to start over... Hope that gives you some clues, its all about experimenting...
thank you very much Is inkscape similar to illustrator? (because vector trace sounds like it could be similar to illustrator's live trace) kudos to your backgrounds by the way, they're always interesting texturewize
Inkscape is a very very basic vector based program, is also freeware. I never managed to get my head round Illustrator, but wish they'd put a vector trace into PS and be done with it!
I afraid I don't know any other freeware programs, I got Inkscape free with a magazine! Arts Projects is a monthly digital graphic design mag thats always worth a look to see if any of the little projects can help you. The tutorials are always based on PS, Illustrator and whatever free sh$t they give away that month. Its more often than not so removed from my style bt it helps me to rethink my own working process and get better!
Also, how do you do it?
Can you do a tutorial? >_>

There must be a reason why PS doesn't have it. And it better be a good one lol
Ps: are there any other good freeware art programs you know of? (if you don't mind my asking)
